Deadline for ALL practical work: Wed 3rd Feb

Just wondering how far we are with meeting this deadline.....

No-one attended the extra sessions last week, which makes me assume that all is in hand and under control, which is great because I can submit confirmation for your coursework assessment.

However, if I am wrong then your coursework will not be entered.

So, just in case I have misunderstood, there will be computers available all day Tuesday 2nd Feb until 5.30pm.

Deadline: Wed 3rd Feb for music videos, DVD covers and Print magazine adverts.
Note that ALL of your research and planning for every component needs to be on your blogs too (see Karl's blog - it is up to date). Also note that an explanation of WHY you are doing something in relation to your brief and parts of ANGRILI are needed.

Lesson 13.01.10 - DVD Cover plans

This is what you must consider and PLAN when putting together your DVD cover:
  • Font style and colour
  • Background style and colour
  • Main image - logo, graphic, text or photo
  • Title of DVD
  • Band name
  • Spacing and layout (composition)
  • DVD Spine
  • Blurb/copy on back of DVD
  • Images for back of DVD
  • Composition of back of DVD
To do this, use your research of existing DVD covers - all the answers are there!  Here is a good example of how the above can be used:

Lesson 11.01.10: Photoshop

Absent: SK, TA, NF, KP

Today we looked at the basics of photoshop design for the DVD covers. The group worked on initial designs.

For those who couldn't make it in today, please continue to work on your DVD cover designs. If have any questions, leave a comment below, email me or phone in to school and speak to me.

Everyone needs their draft design ideas for Wednesday's lesson.  If you have photoshop at home you should start your DVD cover design - remember to use your research/decontructions to help you with your design look. Think about the representation and image of the band/artist/track and aim for consistency in house style across your promo package.

Measurements for DVD size (you will need this to create your canvas size on Photoshop) is 280mm in width and 182mm in height.  Then mark out a 20mm wide strip in 130mm in, parallel to the left vertical edge.  This will form the spine. Hey presto, you now have the outline for your DVD cover, going from left to right as back, spine and front.

We only have until the end of January for both the DVD design and the Magazine advert.

See you Wed.

Jan 2010 Update

Top job! Well done for getting on with your DVD cover deconstructions and research despite not being in school!  Hopefully you now have ideas about what your DVD should look like.

Make sure you bring your design drafts and plans for your own cover with you - we are going to start photoshop design of these on Monday.

Dave, please make sure your blogs are also up to date by Monday.

Thanks
