Easter Hols HL - Due in Wed 21st April

Absent: FS, RS

Home Learning due in on Wed 21st April:

1. Revisit and revise your Foundation production work (use your blogs)

2. Based on Question 1a for the Production Critical Perspectives paper:

How have you used creativity across your two production pieces?
- Outline what creativity is to you
- Overview of what has allowed you to be creative (eg, genre, technologies etc)
- Examples of when you have been creative
- Examples of when your creativity has been stifled
- discussion of whether you have been creative, or whether other factors (such as generic conventions, character representation etc) have restricted / capped your creativity.
- Try and weave in 3 or 4 bits of theory (eg, Propp, Todorov, Stafford, Male Gaze,  etc - but only apply those that are relevant!)

This task is only a 30 minute in the exam, so in your response aim for 3 or 4 concise sides of A4 handwritten.

Coursework amendments: Digipak changes 24.03.10

Following advice from OCR, here's what we need to do:

1. Period 1: Create 2 new panels for the inside of the DVD Digipak. AS has the Photoshop template. The inside must match the style of the outside. Upload finished inside of Digipak DVD to your blog, under your 'Final DVD Cover' post.

2. Period 5: Update 'DVD Cover' research sections of your blog to include 'DVD Digipak' information - use AS examples of DVDs.

3. Period 5: Update blog to change references to 'DVD Cover' to 'DVD Digipak' - we must state exactly what has been created. This will take time and patience to do!

Please make sure these tasks are all done by Friday 26th March and posted to your blog. Damian MUST have a copy of these too.

4. HL before Monday 29th March: Upload all FINAL EVALUATION question responses to your blog.

Tuesday 16 March 2010

Period 1 lesson Wed 17th March 2010

We will have a taught lesson period 2. In the meantime please use period 1 to:

1. Finalise and update Q4
2. Tidy up your blogs, including labeling all evaluation questions correctly to their number and titles.
3. Remove phantom postings from your blog (where you have a title, but nothing in it!)
4. Please give DVD covers and Print Ads (in photoshop format) for Damian to back up.

Period 2 I will collect in any remaining Q4s.

We will then discuss the exam part of the unit.

Concerns:

Dave - Several of your evaluation questions not submitted + blog not updated. Q3+4 needed.

Katy - please put all checked evaluation questions on your blog. Q4 needed from you.

Sam - update your blog with all checked questions.

Nikki - Detailed analysis needed in your evaluation question updates.

All - you MUST bring in all components of your coursework, especially if you have worked at home on these. Damian needs to back these up for your examiner.

Q4 Guidelines

13MS A2 Video Production

Critical Evaluation: Guidelines for Question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

This basically means:

  • Which technologies did you use (hardware and software)
  • Evaluate the impact of each technology at each stage of research, planning, construction and evaluation
  • Describe how you were able to use the technology and what effect / outcome it had

A suggested approach: (use screenshots as examples of what you have done):

  • A) Overview of range of technologies used

B) Explanation and analysis of use of technology for:

- Research

- Planning

- Construction

- Evaluation

Make sure you explain what you used, how you used it, and the effects that were created. Screenshots useful.

      C) Evaluate the technologies used, linking to digital theories and music industry theory.

Q4 exemplars

Question 4 guidelines now issued (also available in full from next post).

Looking around, I found these 2 blogs. By combining BOTH responses with screenshots and a reference to digital technology theory would produce a final quality response!

HL and Evaluation questions 1+2 guidelines

Over the holidays:

1. Complete questions 1+2 for evaluations (guidelines to be issued in lesson). Upload to blogs under correct title.
2. Update and tidy up blogs, making sure all fonts are readable and all post titles are valid (no gaps or cheating!)
3. Start collecting feedback from your music videos by:
- Speaking to your band/artist
- using FB, myspace and other web 2.0 sites to gather evidence of the responses to your video
- Analysing the effectiveness of youtube by reviewing your views, ratings, tags and comments. (click on the 'Statistics and Data' tab - really useful information about where your views have come from!)

Deadline for this work: Wed 24th Feb. 9am.

After the holidays we will work through questions 3 and 4, and hopefully have a screening and performance at the Blue Walnut Cafe on 5th March (please support Sam and Rachel in making this happen).

Evaluation questions

On Wednesday's lesson (10.02.10), we will be looking at how to respond to the evaluation questions.

Here they are, for you to look at and consider in preparation:

In the evaluation the following questions must be answered:

  1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
  2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
  3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
  4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Wednesday 3 February 2010

Extended deadline: 9am, Wed 10th Feb

Absent: sk, fs:

Given that we want to do this well, here is what needs to happen now that you have had some feedback:

1. Upload your research on DVD covers and music magazines (for the advert)

2. Complete DVD covers and DVD adverts and upload to blog

3. Explain how your items fit in with the whole promo package. Consider ANGRILI, specifically looking at Institution, Representation, Genre and Audience. You have to be able to explain and justify, with supporting evidence, how your products fit these areas. Use real/existing media to form your comparison. Avoid generalised comments. This also needs to be on your blog.

The extended deadline now stands at 9am, Wed 10th Feb.

Extra sessions:

Thursday 4th Feb: 3.30pm-5.30pm

Friday 5th Feb: Period 1 and period 5

Monday 8th Feb: Period 1 (lesson), period 2, period 4, AOW, period 5 and until 5pm

Tuesday: All day until 5pm.

Sunday 31 January 2010

Deadline for ALL practical work: Wed 3rd Feb

Just wondering how far we are with meeting this deadline.....

No-one attended the extra sessions last week, which makes me assume that all is in hand and under control, which is great because I can submit confirmation for your coursework assessment.

However, if I am wrong then your coursework will not be entered.

So, just in case I have misunderstood, there will be computers available all day Tuesday 2nd Feb until 5.30pm.

Deadline: Wed 3rd Feb for music videos, DVD covers and Print magazine adverts.
Note that ALL of your research and planning for every component needs to be on your blogs too (see Karl's blog - it is up to date). Also note that an explanation of WHY you are doing something in relation to your brief and parts of ANGRILI are needed.

Lesson 13.01.10 - DVD Cover plans

This is what you must consider and PLAN when putting together your DVD cover:
  • Font style and colour
  • Background style and colour
  • Main image - logo, graphic, text or photo
  • Title of DVD
  • Band name
  • Spacing and layout (composition)
  • DVD Spine
  • Blurb/copy on back of DVD
  • Images for back of DVD
  • Composition of back of DVD
To do this, use your research of existing DVD covers - all the answers are there!  Here is a good example of how the above can be used:

Lesson 11.01.10: Photoshop

Absent: SK, TA, NF, KP

Today we looked at the basics of photoshop design for the DVD covers. The group worked on initial designs.

For those who couldn't make it in today, please continue to work on your DVD cover designs. If have any questions, leave a comment below, email me or phone in to school and speak to me.

Everyone needs their draft design ideas for Wednesday's lesson.  If you have photoshop at home you should start your DVD cover design - remember to use your research/decontructions to help you with your design look. Think about the representation and image of the band/artist/track and aim for consistency in house style across your promo package.

Measurements for DVD size (you will need this to create your canvas size on Photoshop) is 280mm in width and 182mm in height.  Then mark out a 20mm wide strip in 130mm in, parallel to the left vertical edge.  This will form the spine. Hey presto, you now have the outline for your DVD cover, going from left to right as back, spine and front.

We only have until the end of January for both the DVD design and the Magazine advert.

See you Wed.

Jan 2010 Update

Top job! Well done for getting on with your DVD cover deconstructions and research despite not being in school!  Hopefully you now have ideas about what your DVD should look like.

Make sure you bring your design drafts and plans for your own cover with you - we are going to start photoshop design of these on Monday.

Dave, please make sure your blogs are also up to date by Monday.

Thanks
